Display screens fit for gorillas

One of the big winners at this year’s Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas is known by consumers mostly for cookware. Corning Inc., a 150-year-old glass maker, has scored a hit with Gorilla Glass.
Gorilla Glass is an unscratchable, unbreakable material used to protect display screens. It’s already on over 300 products including smart phones, high definition TVs, tablet computers and more. In addition to its durability, Gorilla Glass is thin: about one millimetre thick, half to one-third the thickness of other glass screens.
At CES, Microsoft unveiled the latest version of Surface, its multi-touch tablet computer for the business market, which incorporates Gorilla Glass. New products from Samsung, Dell, Sony and many others have new products using Gorilla Glass.
If you’ve ever had your beautiful new tablet or smart phone screen scratched, and many of you have, you’ll understand the appeal of a device using Gorilla Glass. I think we’ll be seeing a lot more of it.
