The rise of smartphones now means that we are able to carry around our entire record collections on one 120g device. Long gone are the days of alphabetising CD collections to find the dreaded CD in the wrong case! With thousands of songs available at the click of a button (or tap of a screen) there’s no denying the way we listen to music has changed. Similarly, the way we access music has also changed over the past ten years, with streaming and downloading providing alternatives to physical purchases – currently, more than 15,000 songs on average are downloaded per minute from iTunes alone! So, with streaming services such as Spotify and YouTube, and online vendors like iTunes and Amazon, just how much have our music habits changed as a result of the internet and what effect has this had on the music industry?
