After reading yesterday’s post “Reseller hosting is much better than shared hosting<\/a>” some of you cPanel users may wonder why I didn’t recommend the use of the addon domains function. I didn’t mention it, because it is not a serious solution to managing multiple domains and sites.<\/p>\n

Addon domains aren’t a replacement for true hosting accounts. They are not fully functional accounts. They are intended simply as a convenience to enable the addition of related domains to an existing cPanel account such as for domain parking. They are not intended to be used for resold clients or for separate accounts.<\/p>\n

For example, an addon domain does not have its own cPanel control panel, it does not have its own web stats, and e-mail functions differently. The web site of an addon domain does not have its own root web directory, but is instead a sub-folder of the public_html folder in your cPanel account. Addon domains can be a nice little feature for parking a domain or two, but it doesn’t offer the features or independence of a true cPanel account.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
